The Elements Course is the required first step of any legitimate, quality CrossFit program. It is mandatory for all beginner athletes to CrossFit. CFAF's six-class Elements Course consists of a full Functional Movement Screening (FMS) for all new athletes followed by five classes covering the 95 percent of the movements you will encounter throughout out your time at Ad Finem. The FMS is a detailed analysis of each individuals strengths and weakness within their body. This test allows us to find imbalances in the body, and possible pain and/or injuries that the body may be compensating for so that we can adjust the program appropriately for each individual within the group.

After completing the FMS test we begin the Elements Classes where we cover a wide variety of movements and the standards to completing each move safely and efficiently in a class setting. Some of the movements we cover are Squats (Air, Front, Overhead, Back), Pres (Strict, Push, Jerk), Deadlifts, Olympic Lifts, Gymnastics moves including Pull Ups, Push Ups, Muscle Ups, Handstands and walks, as well as Rowing, Running, and Jumping Rope. We finish each class off with a workout (except for the FMS test day) that can be scaled to each athlete's fitness level. Lastly, and most importantly we discuss the importance of mobility, sleep, nutrition, and how to put it all together in our “normal” hectic lives.
